Formatting Styles

If you are having difficulty figuring out how to cite a source stop by the Reference Desk and ask a librarian for help, email or chat with us, or check out one of the style guide books available at the circulation desk.

  • MLA (Modern Language Association): used for most Humanities courses
  • APA (American Psychological Association): used for most Social Science courses
  • Chicago Manual of Style/Turabian: used for most History courses

NOTE: If you are allowed to choose a style, pick the format you are most comfortable with and be consistent (i.e. don't switch back and forth between formatting styles).
