Using Specific Databases

Remember that most databases search across disciplines. Pay attention to the names of the journals in your search results and chose articles suitable for your discipline.

Start with one of these databases:

CINAHL Complete This link opens in a new window
nursing, biomedicine, health sciences librarianship, alternative/complementary medicine, consumer health, and 17 allied health disciplines back to 1976.
Health and Medicine This link opens in a new window
A comprehensive database covering a complete range of healthcare topics for nursing and allied health students.
Includes full-text journals, reference books and videos demonstrating medical procedures and live surgeries.
Health and Wellness This link opens in a new window
A comprehensive consumer health resource containing both scholarly medical journals and general interest health magazines.
Broad collection of full-text reference works, streaming video, audio and images. Spanish editions of notable content and a Spanish language search filter. Topic portals with curated content.
Nursing & Allied Health Premium This link opens in a new window
Provides information covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complimentary medicine with full-text scholarly articles and dissertations. Training videos, covering topics such as health care safety are available. Includes multicultural reports from CultureGrams.
Areas covered include Nursing, Allied health, Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, Physiology, Anatomy, Gerontology, Orthopedics, Nutrition, and Rehabilitation.
PubMed This link opens in a new window
Access to the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database, Medline, containing citations and abstracts to worldwide medical literature dating back to the 1950s.
PubMed does not include full text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources such as PubMed Central (PMC), a component of PubMed.
