Eighty-year-old Jimmy Mirikitani survived the trauma of WWII internment camps, Hiroshima, and homelessness by creating art. But when 9/11 threatens his life on the New York City streets and a local filmmaker brings him to her home, the two embark on a journey to confront Jimmy's painful past. An intimate exploration of the lingering wounds of war and the healing powers of community and art.

When noted art therapist Judith Rubin invited her peers to submit footage of art therapy in action she received hundreds of hours of material from all over the world. This program draws from those submissions to document the use of art therapy in a wide variety of cultural settings. Vividly expressive works from children and adults affected by Israel's Six-Day War, America's 9/11 terror attacks, the 2011 Japanese tsunami, and other traumatic upheavals are shown throughout to illustrate the power of this modality. In addition, clinicians discuss the history of art therapy-which began with Carl Jung-their own training in the field, and the need for consistent standards.
