April is National Poetry Month!
Did you know that the US has a Poet Laureate?
The Poet Laureate is appointed by the Librarian of Congress, and the position has existed (under a different title) since 1937. The Library of Congress provides information about the history of the position as well as a bibliography of works chronicling its history.
Ada Limón is the 24th U.S. Poet Laureate.
When commenting on her appointment, she stated, “again and again, I have been witness to poetry's immense power to reconnect us to the world, to allow us to heal, to love, to grieve, to remind us of the full spectrum of human emotion” (Library of Congress).
