Celebrate National Poetry Month!

by Bethany Wilkes on 2024-05-08T11:02:00-04:00 in English & Writing, Literature & Literary Criticism | 0 Comments

April is National Poetry Month!

National Poetry Month was launched in 1996 by the Academy of American Poets to celebrate the role of poets and poetry in our culture. In recognition of National Poetry Month, we are highlighting American poets and their works. Watch this space, as we will continue to highlight American poetry in the Library's collection and beyond for the rest of the month.

This year’s National Poetry Month poster features text from Lucille’s Clifton’s poem, Blessing the Boats:

and may you in your innocence
sail through this to that

Read the poem in its entirety, in addition to other amazing poems by Lucille Clifton, collected in the book Blessing of the Books: New and Selected Poems.
