Macdonald-Kelce Librarian Elizabeth Lee Barron's family has a rich history in the Florida citrus industry boom. Before endless housing development and general sprawl filled the region, the greater Tampa Bay area was awash with orange groves. A recent Tampa Bay Times article tells Elizabeth's story of collecting dozens of citrus shipping labels made for her great-grandfather's companies. These labels feature illustrations of her family members: her father as a baby, her aunts, and even the old family dog.

Gain full access to the Tampa Bay Times archive, full text from 1987-present, and full page image views of the print edition, from 2018-present in the Access World News database.

See Florida Southern College's "Florida Citrus Crate Label" exhibit online. Elizabeth's family's labels are included in the Florida Citrus Archives, housed in FSC McKay Archives Center.
