The best way to get in contact is by email.
You can try my office extension, but between helping students with research, giving presentations, and working with the collection, I may not be near my phone. x3719.
Hi. I'm David Davisson. I am the Information Literacy Librarian at the Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa.
I help students learn to be better scholars.
I also develop our collection to help support Criminology and Criminal Justice, Geography, History, Law & Legal Studies, Mathematics, Military Science, Philosophy, Political Science and International Studies, Religion, and Sociology.
I oversee the library instruction presentations. There is quite a bit available at the Introduction to Library Research guide. If you have any questions about library presentations or library instruction, please get in touch. Below are the answers to some frequently asked questions.
Q: Can I get presentation for my AWR201 class?
Probably. Contact David Davisson (ddavisson@ut.edu) or Leslie Vega (lvega@ut.edu).
Q: Can I get a presentation for my UTAMPA or HON101 class?
A: Unfortunately we don't have enough librarians to teach to all the different sections, however we will schedule presentations for UTAMPA103 & UTAMPA104. We emphasize teaching to the AWR sections, so we reach many students during their research projects for that class. We teach to UTAMPA103 & UTAMPA104 because we noticed that many of those students end up not taking the AWR class.
Two guides that might be useful as you introduce students to the expectations of university-level research are the Introduction to Library Research, and the Information Literacy Framework.
Q. Can I get a presentation for my upper-division or graduate-level class that goes beyond the introductory level presentation?
A: Upper-division and graduate-level presentations are typically given by your library liaison. See Subject Librarians to locate your liaison.
Q: What if I want to go beyond what is taught in the Introduction to Library Research?
A: You might find some useful readings/exercises in the Information Literacy Framework. For presentations to upper division students and graduate students that go beyond the basic introduction, contact your liaison librarian.
One of the best parts of my job is buying books for the library. My collection focus is:
However, you can contact me about acquiring anything.
I also spend time removing books from the physical collection. If there are materials you think are no longer relevant, or are dated, please let me know so we can move those books out to make room for more recent scholarship.
Check out the Information Literacy Framework guide for resources on teaching information literacy.
