The latest theories of excellence and effectiveness in nursing are focusing on a more holistic approach, a more caring, humanistic relationship between nurse and client, and a greater effort to encourage empowerment among clients so that they can take greater responsibility for their own health and become more involved in solving the problems of their communities. In this film a group of nursing specialists discuss how these new theories can best help the nurse providing direct care. Host Patricia Moccia talks with Dorothy L. Powell and Bernadine M. Lacey about the problems of providing nursing care to the homeless ; with Sunny Sutton and Maria K. Mitchell about quality home nursing care for the elderly ; and with Jean Watson of the Center for Human Caring and Janet L.
