Latin American Studies

The Latin American Studies minor is designed to internationalize a number of existing majors by introducing students to the history, culture, politics and economics of Latin America and the Caribbean from an interdisciplinary perspective. The minor in Latin American studies will help students prepare for careers in government, business, academia and NGOs, as well as for graduate school in multiple disciplines.

The Department of Languages and Linguistics offers a major in Spanish, various minors and a Certificate of Intercultural Engagement.

The Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) is the largest business student organization at Florida International University, and a leading student chapter of one of the largest professional organizations for Latinos in the nation.

Enterprising Latinas creates pathways of opportunity for Latinas in Tampa Bay by teaching new skills, creating networks of mutual support, and advocating for innovative solutions to promote economic mobility and equity. We believe in Latinas being both contributors as well as beneficiaries of a thriving economy.

We encourage all business professionals, both Hispanic and non-Hispanic, to get involved with the programs we offer. As an organization, we present all Hispanics/Latinos. We offer our members and guests monthly networking events and workshops as well as our annual signature events. FCHCC also offers promotional opportunities for you and your business. And, if you’re looking for a way to give back, we welcome you to volunteer to any of our committees!

The Florida Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce has been created to educate, provide sources of income, create fraternal alliances, be representatives for you in different organizations, be in constant captivation of information at the federal and state level for the growth of our business community, we are a coalition of business and community organizations creating a united front!

Increase access and opportunities for Latinos and influence the systems that serve them.

Founded in 1982 as a haven for immigrants and refugees, HUF has grown to serve diverse and multi-cultural working families from the United States as well as more than 25 other countries. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help more than 23,000 clients of all ages, from preschoolers to adults, successfully transition to a productive new life.

This guide is designed to provide and communicate resources and services more effectively with the Spanish speaker families. Based on the United States census, the Latino/Hispanic population in Tampa has grown to 26.4%, and it represents the largest and youngest minority group in the nation.
