Provides detailed information on thousands of journals and book series in the fields of literature, language, linguistics, film, rhetoric and composition, and folklore.
The entries cover useful publication details. All periodicals and book series indexed in the MLA International Bibliography are listed in the directory.

One of the most comprehensive databases available online. Provides access to full-text journals across a wide range of subject areas, including business, education, literature, political science, and psychology.
Sabin Americana, 1500-1926 This link opens in a new window
Contains digitized primary source material published from 1500 to the early 1900s, covering the discovery of America through the Reconstruction.
It includes books, pamphlets, newspapers, and other documents on exploration, trade, colonialism, slavery and abolition, Native Americans, military actions, women and more.

Google Scholar

Google Scholar can be a useful source for research and is appealing for the familiar Google search box, but keep in mind it has some limitations:

Google Scholar is not comprehensive and does not provide indexing to many of the scholarly journals available through the library databases which can bias your research and limit your exposure to the body of research available.
Not all results are from peer reviewed sources. You will need to critically evaluate materials found through Google Scholar.
Many results are not available in full text through Google Scholar.
